Moonee Valley Redevelopment

Built in the 1930s, the Tote Building has been of important historic relevance to the Moonee Valley Racecourse and is a cornerstone of the site. As part of the significant Moonee Valley Racecourse Redevelopment project, we were engaged with Samantha Eades Design to provide a major upgrade to the Tote Building, transforming the historic structure into a new restaurant / cafe / bar.

Included in these works is the major internal fitout of the existing building, and a new extended pavilion to the north.

The retention of the existing historic Tote windows are being respectfully restored and feature prominently along the face, with intimate dining areas aligned with each window. The proportions of these windows provided the inspiration for the modern addition as well, with the west facing dining area featuring a very modern interpretation of these window modules.

Whilst the newer additions to the existing Tote building feature quite modern architectural language, they use light, minimal features that do not seek to dominate or compete with the Heritage aspect of the existing building, but quietly compliment it.

Internally, a material palette of rich timbers, bronze and leather are classical and timeless in their approach, a nod to the rich, historic early years of the Tote Building.

The Tote Redevelopment project is currently under construction, and due for completion mid 2021.
